Web Application Librarian (full-time, 35 hours/week)

Position Summary: The libraries of The Catholic University of America have as their purpose to support and enrich the instructional, research, and service programs of the university. Electronic Resources and Services is responsible for providing the technology and resources necessary for quality instruction and research, acquisition of electronic resources, organizing and maintaining the access to the electronic resources, creating and managing the local digital resources, and developing and overseeing the libraries public and staff Web sites.

This position will report to the Head of Electronic Resources & Services, supporting the delivery and discovery of library collections by designing, developing, managing, configuring, and supporting the Libraries’ websites, digital collections, discovery systems, and other digital initiatives. The individual will provide technical and operational support for web services in the CUA Libraries, as well as participate in training and support of staff and users.

Essential Responsibilities Include: Develop, code, test, and debug web applications, tools and services (new and existing); create integration with vendor-based APIs and web services; produce and update technical documentation; research and utilize emerging web technologies, principles, and standards, and identify emerging technologies that have potential for new and improved library services; participate in the strategic planning for the Libraries’ website and the initiatives and priorities of the library systems. Collect and analyze user behavior data and conduct user testing to inform design decisions.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree required (MLS, MSIS). Must be American Library Association Accredited or recognized equivalent. Experience developing applications for libraries; familiarity with Unix/Linux environments. One (1) year demonstrated experience in web design and development, with HTML, CSS and web design principles. Knowledge and one (1) year of experience with database technologies (such as MySQL, Oracle, and the SQL language). One (1) year knowledge and experience with JQuery, JavaScript, and PHP programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years’ experience in library preferred.
