Special Borrowers
Who is a Special Borrower?A special borrower is any patron of The Catholic University of America (CUA) Libraries who has privileges but is not a faculty member, staff, or a student of the University. A special borrower may be an alumnus of the University; an internship supervisor for NCSSS, the School of Nursing, or other schools/departments; a post-doctoral auditor; a non-CUA member of the OCLC Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing program; or a member of an organization with a group privileges contract (American Nursing Association and the American Nursing Credentialing Association). LoansSpecial borrowers may borrow up to 750 regular circulating items on a three-week loan but may not borrow non-circulating items. You must present a valid borrowing ID at the circulation desk to borrow books. They may renew items once only for an additional three weeks, in person or through myALADIN. Special borrowers are subject to all recall policies, and may not borrow if they have five or more overdue items, one recalled item, or owe $5.00 or more in fines. Fines and Other FeesSpecial borrowers are subject to all fine policies. Please consult the Access Services Policies and Procedures guides for further information. Course ReservesSpecial borrowers may borrow items placed on reserve for two hours only. Interlibrary LoanInterlibrary loan is not available to special borrowers through CUA. Washington Research Library ConsortiumSpecial borrowers do not have privileges with the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) through CUA. Remote AccessSpecial borrowers do not have remote access to certain ALADIN databases. Other Circulation PrivilegesSpecial borrowers are entitled to searches, and courtesy holds of CUA items only. Library SecurityAll patrons, both CUA and non-CUA, must show a photo ID when entering Mullen Library. Patrons with non-CUA or Consortium IDs also will be asked to sign the guest book. Mullen Library reserves the right to check all bags as patrons exit the building.
