The Collection Management Department, as an integral part of the Catholic University of America Libraries Technical Services, supports and promotes scholarly and educational mission of the University through physical processing and online organization of library material for continuing access. The primary responsibility of the Department is to maintain the Library collections for current and future use through preservation and conservation treatment, where possible, and through reformatting.
Departmental functions include: preservation of library material, shelf preparation and relocation of selected material to the WRLC remote storage facilities.
Preservation and shelf preparation activities focus on physical nature of library material. Shelf preparation includes labeling or re-labeling, and providing property stamps and security strips. Preservation of library material includes both commercial and in-house treatment.
In-House preservation activities include, besides commercial bindery preparation, minor and major book repairs, preservation enclosures, music binders, preservation photocopying, tipping-in pages, making pockets for supplemental material, pressboard binders for pamphlets and extensive book and paper cleaning.
