This page is designed to help you access the databases available through ALADIN, the online system for the Washington Research Library Consortium.

For more information about using the databases efficiently, please see the online help available in each database, our list of ALADIN databases and guides for searching, or contact Reference & Instructional Services (202-319-5070).

Who has remote access to the ALADIN databases?

The online library catalog for the WRLC member libraries is accessible to the general public through the Internet at http://www.aladin.wrlc.org. It is the place to see what books and journals are available at CUA or the other libraries. You do not need to go through patron validation to use this database.

To use the article databases and e-journals from off-campus, students must use the 7-digit Institutution ID # or the library user barcode on their university IDs and must be currently registered for classes. (This is the same process which authorizes you to check out books.)

Remote access to article databases and e-journals available through ALADIN is restricted to current CUA students, faculty, and staff. These databases are commercial products, and access to them is restricted by our contracts.

How do I connect to ALADIN?

Anyone may use the WRLC Libraries Catalog from our libraries home page. Patron validation is not required to use the catalog.

On campus you can access all the article databases and e-journals that CUA Libraries subscribes without logging in.

To use the article databases and e-journals from off-campus, you need to use your university ID number or library user barcode and select "Catholic" for the Institution on the ALADIN login screen. WRLC set the single login function for the ALADIN services; i.e. once you login, you should not have to login again when you use different databases or e-journals, unless your session times out -- 30 minutes without acessing any ALADIN Web pages -- or you close your Web browser.

If you login failed, try retyping your information to make sure the problem was not just a typographical error. If you encounter the failed login continuely, contact the Access Services office.

If you do not have current, valid borrowing privileges, you may visit the CUA Libraries and use our resources on-site.

What software will I need?

The ALADIN databases work best with recent releases of graphical web browsers such as Netscape, Firefox, or Internet Explorer. To avoid problems accessing the databases, please don't disable cookies in your Web browser, and set the Security/Privacy level to "medium" for your Web browser.

Some of our article databases offer full-text from journals in an image format called PDF. You will need a program called Adobe Acrobat Reader to help your browser read these files. This program can be downloaded for free from Adobe Software at http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/.
