In addition to the National Academy of Sciences, this site includes information about the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. Overall, the site has scientific information on topics including the physical sciences, life and earth sciences, medicine and health, education and science and technology policy.

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST)
This US Department of Commerce agency provides general information about itself, links to programs, news updates, press releases, standards information, reference data, an image gallery, employment information and a searchable database.

The World Wide Web Virtual Library-Chemistry
The WWW Virtual Library for Chemistry offers a survey of university, non-profit, commercial, and many other links to chemistry information. The site is maintained by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCLA.

The World Wide Web Virtual Library-Physics
The World Wide Web Virtual Library for Physics is a good survey of specialized subject areas within physics, and has many links to sites that are excellent for browsing. The site is a great place to start searching, for the most general to very technical information.

Lawrence Livermore National Labs (LLNL)-Physics and Space Technology
The LLNL home page contains information in many specialized areas of physics, including federal government research, conferences, and specialized programs. More suitable for the advanced user, the LLNL home page provides information on condensed matter physics; atomic, nuclear, and particle physics; high-temperature physics; and astrophysics.

NASA-HEASARC High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center/Goddard Space Flight Center
The HEASARC site contains " a collection of short movies, astrophysical phenomena, images, and information on every high-energy astrophysics satellite including Explorer 11's pioneering flight." The site also includes information on space exploration programs, extrasolar planets, astronomical images, and the history of astronomy.

The Protein Databank (PDB) is an archive of experimentally determined 3-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, serving a global community of researchers, educators, and students.
