This page gives examples for searching the WRLC Libraries Catalog for scores and recordings. You must be at the "Keyword Search" screen for these to work.

Scores and Recordings
To Find Type
Scores owned by the CUA Music Library the Composer's Name AND the Title AND Score AND DCU?
For example:
Brahms AND Symphon? AND Score AND DCU? Finds scores of symphonies by Johannes Brahms owned by CUA
Compact discs owned by the CUA Music Library: the Composer's Name AND the Title AND Sound AND DCU?
For example:
Verdi AND "Luisa Miller" AND Sound AND DCU? Finds recordings of Verdi's Luisa Miller owned by CUA
Video Recordings (DVDs and laser discs) owned by CUA Music Library: the Composer's Name AND the Title AND Video? AND DCU?
For example:
Sondheim AND "Sweeney Todd" AND Video? AND DCU? Finds DVDs and laser discs of Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim

General Searching Notes:
-Operators (the words AND, OR, and NOT) must be typed in upper case.
Operator Type To Find
-AND means that you want records with both words. Brahms AND Sonata Finds records with both "Brahms" and "sonata."
-OR means that you want records with either word. Brahms OR Sonata Finds all the records which use either "Brahms" or "sonata."
-NOT means you don't want the following word in the record. Brahms NOT Sonata Finds records with "Brahms" that do not have "sonata."
-" " are used to enclose a phrase. The WRLC Libraries Catalog cannot understand your search without the quotation marks. "Ten Easy Pieces" Finds records that have the phrase "Ten Easy Pieces."
-? indicates truncation. Use this when you only know how a word begins or for words that can end in more than one way. Symphon? Finds symphony, symphonies, symphonic, Symphonien, etc.
-( ) are used to enclose terms you want to search as one unit. (Brahms OR Haydn) AND Sonat? Finds records for sonatas by Brahms or Haydn.
