Policies for Audiovisual Material (CDs, DVDs, Laser Discs, LPs)

  • Full-time CUA faculty members may check out sound and video recordings for one week.
  • Sound and video recordings generally do not circulate outside the library and must be used in the library's Listening Room, though students may use these materials in class presentations or lessons within the School of Music. Longer-term use or use outside of the School of Music must be approved in advance by full-time library staff.
  • We ask that patrons use the audiovisual equipment provided in the Listening Room instead of using their own equipment.

Music Theatre Material

Due to high demand, all Music Theatre and other popular-genre scores are kept at the Circulation Desk (Desk Reference Loan). These items must be charged to a valid ID even for use within the library. They may be taken out of the library and used within the School of Music and are due back at Music Library closing time on the same day that they are checked out.

Reserve Items

Items which have been placed on Course Reserve for a faculty member may only be checked out for two hours, after which fines accrue. The Music Library does not have a Reserve shelf but rather places a yellow sticker on reserve items and changes the loan period to two hours. Such items may be taken out of the library within an hour of closing if they are returned within an hour of opening the next day.

For Visitors

The Music Library is open for use by the general public. Borrowing privileges are only extended to patrons with a valid CUA or WRLC ID. Because of high demand and expense, our audiovisual material and musical theatre scores are kept behind the Circulation Desk; members of the general public wishing to use such material should surrender a photo ID which we will return when the material is returned. Reference service and research help is available from the full-time staff members Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.; however, we recommend that you call ahead to make an appointment if you need in-depth research assistance.

Fines

Overdue Items

  • 25¢ per day for circulating materials
  • 1¢ per minute for Reserve materials and special loans (Desk Ref. scores, CDs, etc.)

Lost Items

  • $57 item replacement
  • $30 processing fee
  • $10 overdue fee
  • $97 total
